Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)

Overview

A good understanding of GD&T based drawings, tolerance definition, variants that address different ways of applying the tolerances, Metrology of GD&T, designing tooling and gauging processes and applications of GD&T is a fundamental requirement of good engineering skills. This understanding serves as the first step towards becoming capable of practicing GD&T independently for delivering excellent products and toolings. The program would be fulfilling this requirement by covering a mix of theory, examples and applications of GD&T based on ASME standards.

Benefits
  • Understand international GD&T standards & practices and align their work towards it.
  • Design tooling and processes to deliver the GD&T tolerances.
  • Understand the GD&T Design intent, procure/manufacture components and assemblies that satisfy the drawing specifications.
Objectives

The program aims to provide basic understanding, interpretation and application of GD&T practices. Post training participants will be able to understand the principles of GD&T, apply GD&T practice based on the ASME Y14.5 2009 standard to become well versed with manufacturability of designs, and deliver excellent toolings and products.

Course Contents
  • Need for GD&T, GD&T Terms Defined, Features and Dimensioning conventions, Separation of Basic sizes and tolerances defined in frames, Tolerancing Principles, concepts of LMC MMC and RFS, Virtual Condition envelopes, Datum Referencing, Understanding the terminology of Datums,
  • Tolerances of Form: Straightness, Flatness, Roundness, Cylindricity,
  • Tolerances of Orientation: Angularity, Perpendicularity, Contribution of Orientation Tolerances to Virtual Conditions,
  • Tolerances of Location: Position, Linear Position Tolerances, Position tolerance Metrology, Tolerances of Run-out, Profile of a surface, Profile Metrology.
  • Eligibility

Engineers between 2 to 8 years of work experience (O and M Band) in design, quality, procurement, vendor development etc. can be nominated for the program.

  • Duration
    2 days
  • Venue
Mahindra Institute of Quality (MIQ), Nashik
