New Product Development

Overview

A competency development program, NPD focuses on understanding the various New Product Development processes as well as tools and techniques which will help develop the product right the first time and within budget. Helps to determine what is required to properly develop and introduce new products.

Objectives

To enhance knowledge and skills in NPD processes and build competency in application of special tools and techniques through implementation of development/improvement projects.

Course Contents

The Program is conducted in two phases (5 days/phase) with a gap of 3 to 4 months between two phases.

Phase 1 Contents:- NPD Process, Concurrent Engineering, Human Issues in NPD, Assurance of Quality in Design & Development, Various tools like Quality Function Deployment, Real Time Usage Profile (RWUP), DFMEA, FTA, introduction to DFM, DFA & DFS and case studies.

Phase 2 contents:-Review of projects, Target costing, Competitive intelligence, Product positioning, VA/VE, Reliability engineering (product life cycle, reliability block diagrams, reliability in design, Reliability prediction & testing)

Pre Program Requirement

This being an application oriented programme, each participant is expected to take up a project in their work area.

The Participants should come to the Programme with a Project from their workplace where they can apply this learning methodology. The Project scope and deliverables need to be agreed and approved by the immediate superior/mentor. The project charter format is to be filled up by the participant with mentor approval before attending the programme as it will be discussed during the program.

    Engineers from R&D/Product Development having minimum 3 years of work experience

  • Duration
    10 days (Phase I – 5 days and Phase II – 5 days, typically 3 months gap between two phases)
